7 boroughs, 26 towns researched separately

Digital marketing agency in the West Midlands

One conurbation on the map and seven separate search markets in practice. This page is how the region actually behaves, and which part of it your money should go to first.

Serving Coventry and the West Midlands. A service area business, so no walk in office and no map pin pretending otherwise.

Coventry Birmingham
  • Coventry and Warwickshire 7
  • Birmingham and Solihull 3
  • The Black Country 8
  • Staffordshire 3
  • Worcestershire and Shropshire 5
A schematic of the region, not a map. Every town has a page; the two larger dots have four more underneath.

Two point nine million people and no single pack

The West Midlands is the second largest urban area in the country and it is laid out nothing like the first. London has a centre that everything orbits. This county has Birmingham, then Coventry twenty miles east behaving like a separate city, then four Black Country boroughs that run into each other with no gap you could point at, and Solihull holding the money in between.

Google reads that geography the way a resident does rather than the way a map does. There is no West Midlands map pack. There is a pack for Wolverhampton city centre, another for Bilston three miles away, another for Tipton, and they have different winners. A business in Oldbury sits inside reach of three borough packs and ranks properly in none of them unless somebody has set it up to.

So the first question for anything regional is not which keywords. It is which of these markets you actually want the phone to ring from, and whether your current setup can reach them at all.

The seven boroughs, and what each one does differently

Same county, same van, four different problems. These are the differences that change the work rather than just the page title.

  1. 01

    Digital marketing in Birmingham

One city centre pack and dozens of suburb packs that behave nothing like it. Ranking in the centre does nothing for Kings Heath, which is the single most expensive assumption firms make here.

    • City centre
    • Edgbaston
    • Harborne
    • Erdington
    • Kings Heath
    • Selly Oak
    • Sutton Coldfield
  2. Automotive, manufacturing and two universities, so the service radius is wide and some of the competition is national rather than local. It also shares a catchment with Nuneaton and Rugby.

    • City centre
    • Earlsdon
    • Foleshill
    • Tile Hill
    • Binley
    • Coundon
  3. 03

    Digital marketing in Wolverhampton

Strong Black Country trade demand, with a pack that bleeds into Walsall and Dudley. A profile sitting in one of the three often ranks weakly in all of them.

    • City centre
    • Bilston
    • Tettenhall
    • Wednesfield
    • Penn
  4. 04

    Digital marketing in Dudley

Spread across several town centres rather than one, which splits the pack and makes proximity decide more here than almost anywhere else in the county.

    • Dudley
    • Stourbridge
    • Halesowen
    • Brierley Hill
    • Kingswinford
    • Sedgley
  5. 05

    Digital marketing in Sandwell

Six towns and no single centre, sitting between the Birmingham and Wolverhampton packs. Dense, mixed commercial and residential, and the hardest borough to cover with one page.

    • West Bromwich
    • Smethwick
    • Oldbury
    • Tipton
    • Wednesbury
    • Rowley Regis
  6. 06

    Digital marketing in Walsall

Industrial estates and trade suppliers searching in specification language, alongside ordinary domestic demand in the outer districts. Two very different searchers on one profile.

    • Walsall
    • Willenhall
    • Bloxwich
    • Darlaston
    • Aldridge
    • Brownhills
  7. 07

    Digital marketing in Solihull

Higher value domestic work and an unusually tight set of competitors, with Birmingham firms bidding into the same searches from outside the borough.

    • Solihull
    • Shirley
    • Knowle
    • Dorridge
    • Chelmsley Wood
    • Balsall Common

Where the region misleads people

Four assumptions that look obvious on a map and cost money in a search result.

  • One conurbation, joined up with no visible boundary Seven authorities, and a separate pack for each centre inside them
  • Twenty minutes from Wolverhampton to West Bromwich A profile in one of them ranks poorly in the other, whatever your van says
  • Birmingham is the big city, so Birmingham is the prize The suburb packs carry more winnable demand than the centre does
  • One service area, so one page about it One page cannot carry seven sets of competitors, roads and districts
  • Your own postcode Top three
  • Three miles out Page two
  • Five miles out Not showing
The gap between those three rings is the whole job.

And the towns outside the boundary

The county line is an administrative fact, not a catchment. Plenty of our work sits in Warwickshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire, where the packs are quieter and a well built profile can take one outright.

Questions about covering this region

Anything not answered here, ask it on the form. You get a person, not a sequence.

Which of the seven boroughs do you actually cover?

All seven: Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Solihull, plus the Warwickshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire towns that sit outside the county boundary. We are a service area business, so the question is whether we can do the work rather than whether we have an office nearby.

We work across the whole region. Do we need a page for every borough?

Not usually, and anyone selling you forty town pages on day one is selling page count. You need a page for every place you genuinely want enquiries from and can write something specific about. For most firms that is three to six, not thirty.

Can one Google Business Profile cover the whole West Midlands?

It can be set to a service area that wide, but it will rank around the postcode it is verified at and fade with distance. If you need presence in Wolverhampton and Coventry both, that is a multi-location problem and it is solved with structure rather than with a wider radius setting.

Is competition here worse than elsewhere in the UK?

In the city centres, yes, and in the trades it is as crowded as anywhere outside London. In the outer districts it is often the opposite: a properly built profile with a handful of real reviews can take a pack that nobody has worked on.

Do you have an office we can visit?

No. Nwestra Digital is a service area business covering Coventry and the West Midlands, and we would rather say that plainly than print an address we do not work from. Calls, video and site visits where the work needs one.

Which service matters most across this region?

For anything local and urgent, local SEO, because the map pack decides the month. For manufacturers and B2B suppliers, technical and content work, because the buyer is searching by specification rather than by town. The honest answer depends on your sector, and the audit tells you which.

Tell us which boroughs you want the phone to ring from.

We will check what you currently rank for in each of them, where the pack cuts you off, and whether the answer is more pages, a second profile or neither. Written, inside two working days.

Takes two minutes. A real person replies within two working days. No contract, no sales call unless you ask for one.
